VACANCY: Elementary English Language Teachers (1) – Beijing, China

VACANCY DESCRIPTION:

The Fangshan District in Beijing, China, is seeking candidate(s) to work with elementary students in their Bo Wen Primary School to teach students English and potentially additional subjects (in English) through pre-determined curriculum. Bo Wen Primary School is seeking enthusiastic, (preferably) native English speakers with a bachelor’s degree and experience working with young children to give students a unique experience and create excitement for learning English and additional subjects in English. Education and teaching credentials are preferred, but previous experience working with young students will be considered with appropriate alternate certifications.

The Fangshan District is seeking one English teacher for the 2018-19 school year and will provide a comprehensive package for those seeking and successfully obtaining a position. This is a one-year contract position with the option of renewal for subsequent years upon successful performance evaluations. Enthusiastic beginning teachers as well as experienced teachers who are looking for a challenging and rewarding experience are encouraged to apply.

Beijing, the capital of the People’s Republic of China, is home to numerous historical and cultural sites in China. Beijing is known for its temples, parks, museums, public transportation, and city views. There are numerous universities in and around Beijing and the Bo Wen program is affiliated with Beijing Comparative Education Institute.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Teaching certificate for grades K-5, and/or TESOL/TEFL Certification
  • Background in English and language instruction or experience teaching or working with elementary age students
  • Native or near native English speaker
  • Experience working with non-native English speakers
  • Flexibility and creativity, ability to work well with students
  • Ability to build relationships with students and families
  • Instructional knowledge and pedagogy for English instruction and techniques
  • Ability to deliver an English curriculum to elementary learners and engage students

 PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current valid teaching certificate and credentials in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada or Australia
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)/English Language Learner (ELL) certification, training or coursework
  • Experience teaching in a foreign country or with non-native English speakers
  • ESL/ELL program development and/or work with ESL/ELL students in a general education classroom setting
  • Culturally responsive teaching practice knowledge and experience
  • Experience and understanding with and/or teaching U.S. culture combined with language instruction or good working knowledge of U.S. culture and the ability to teach it to secondary students in an interesting, engaging way
  • Ability to follow pre-developed lesson plans and the ability to modify lessons as needed during instruction

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • One-year contract with Fangshan District Education Bureau, with the option of renewal for a second year
  • Salary – ¥15,000 yuan per month, based on experience
  • Insurance commensurate with teachers in China
  • Chinese work visa (successful candidates must obtain a Chinese visa)
  • Free Apartment with basic furniture and lunch for free at school cafeteria
  • 10 days break for one whole year contract and Chinese National Holiday break
  • Round trip air ticket reimbursement during the last month of the contract ¥10,000 yuan
  • Program orientation to introduce curriculum, program requirements and students’ language level
  • Local district support team to support teachers in their teaching and daily life
  • Course curriculum will be provided for this program and resources to support classroom instruction will also be provided

POSITION START DATE: Teachers should arrive in Fangshan District the fourth week of August 2018
