Michigan International Education Services offers a unique experience for teachers and students alike. By working directly with the Chinese government, we can ensure that students in China are receiving high-quality education to help them prepare for their future. We offer classes and summer programs for students of all ages.

Our programs are remarkable in that they are tailored to prepare students for living abroad should they chose to do so. Most English as a Second language programs are designed for children of expats living in China, but MIES focuses designing programs on teaching native students using US strategies and pedagogy. Our teachers and consultants are trained to not just teach students how to read and write English, but also how to work with teachers abroad in designing curriculum that allows students how to be comfortable speaking the language and applying it to their everyday lives.

MIES provides students similar programs that mirror educational programs in the United States. We also offer summer programs that typically last 3 weeks. By working with MIES, students in China have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma with programs that are partnered with schools based in Michigan. That will enable them meet US education requirements and give them an advantage when to comes to applying to universities abroad.

A major portion of our work is devoted to creating curricula and designing schools abroad in China. We also work hard to connect schools in China with schools in the United States in order to create effective learning opportunities for students. MIES specializes in designing ESL, STEM/STEAM and core subjects curricula as well as career tech programs.

MIES executive director Rick Shaffner has nearly ten years of experience creating international curricula and working with foreign governments. He has worked with foreign experts to create effective programs for teaching students all throughout China. Rick frequently travels to China to consult with teachers and administrators in order to assist them in revamping their curricula.
